It is located in the Serra do Montemuro area, close to the Portas do Montemuro chapel, in the flatter area that is next to the 321 national road.
This viewpoint is located in the area belonging to the Natura 2000 network, in the hercinic granitic massif corresponding to the mountain range. In landscape terms, it is possible to observe a vast granitic area of the Serra, as well as a phenomenon called metamorphism by contact that consists of the passage from granitic rock to shale creating a metamorphic halo.
This transition from one type of rock to another causes a relative change in the way the reliefs evolve, this due to the different nature of the rock, and then a change in the landscape, valuing this place in terms of the observed landscape.
The viewpoint is located at an altitude of about 1220 m, which is located at the highest altitude. Thus, it presents the greatest viewing angle, being possible to observe a wide area of the county, the Serra do São Macário and, in days with favorable weather conditions, the silhouette of the Serra da Estrela granitic massif. However, there are other points nearby where you can get good viewing angles - in the northwest direction, the elevations a little further away from the Portas de Montemuro chapel and the geodesic vertex of Montemuro.
Both places with altitudes that exceed 1300m.
Leaving Vila de Castro Daire you should follow the EN 2 in the direction of Lamego until the crossing with the EN 321 in the direction of Cinfães.
The viewpoint is at the top of the Serra de Montemuro on the left side of the EN 321, in front of the existing Chapel.
